In Alberta, Pharmacists with the APA (Additional Prescribing Authorization) designation can write prescriptions based on assessment, for most medications except narcotic, controlled and targeted medications. Before the Pharmacist and patient agree that a prescription is an appropriate option, the patient must undergo an assessment.
