Rexall Foundation Helps Keep ‘Lights On’ in Inuvik

Mon, Jan 20, 2014
Today, Alka Vashishtha, Rexall store manager, presented Lexie Winchester, Executive Director of Lights On, with a $5,000 donation that will help provide Inuvik youth a safe, fun and healthy place to spend their Saturday nights.

‘Lights On’ is a non-profit youth recreation program, that provides students in grades 7 to 12 with fun activities as an alternative to drug and alcohol use, on Saturday evenings throughout the school year. The program takes place at East Three Secondary School and is run with the help of students who are looking to gain work experience and develop leadership skills. The Foundation’s donation will fund healthy snacks, new equipment and supplies.

Since 2003, the Rexall Foundation has been helping build strong and vibrant communities by giving back to the communities where stores are located. The Foundation has made donations to numerous charities and programs in Canada, and is especially proud of the contributions that have been made to help some of Canada’s most courageous children. Funds are carefully managed by the Rexall Foundation Board of Directors and directed to reputable and worthy causes throughout the country.

Quotes:
“We’re thrilled that the Rexall Foundation is able to make this donation that we know will have a meaningful impact in our community. It’s important to try and help steer youth in our community down a positive path and this program gives them that opportunity.

Rexall Store Manager, Inuvik

“We’re so very thankful for this donation. Inuvik has limited extracurricular activities for our youth that are at no or low-cost and without this kind gift, Lights On would not be able to provide as varied and exciting Saturday night as youth would like to participate in.”
