Measures include adjusting store hours, introducing virtual care and prioritizing care to vulnerable Canadians
March 19, 2020 – Mississauga, ON – Rexall today announced further steps to support Canadians receiving pharmacy care, health services and essential health products during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Our pharmacies and pharmacists are proud to call hundreds of communities across Canada home. Together with our front-line store teams, we are partnering in our communities to support neighbours and loved ones in receiving care” said Nicolas Caprio, COO and General Manager. “At Rexall, that means taking important steps to protect our customers, and our employees, while ensuring Canadians continue to have access to the health and wellness products they need.”
Creating Safe and Healthy Environments for Employees and Customers As of March 20th, 2020, we are temporarily adjusting our store hours. Condensed opening hours will enable Rexall store team members with more time to sanitize, restock, rest, and take time for self-care.
Rexall stores will now close no later than 8:00 pm from Monday to Friday and no later than 6:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Supporting Customers Aged 55+ and Individuals with Disabilities
Rexall is launching a dedicated shopping hour for customers 55+ years of age and individuals living with disabilities.
Beginning March 18th until September 3rd, Rexall is asking community members to respect that the first opening hour at each location is reserved exclusively for 55+ and individuals living with disabilities to shop, refill prescriptions and seek pharmacy related advice.
During this exclusive shopping hour, Rexall will be extending our Advantage 55+ program, so that Canadians 55+ years of age or older can take advantage of their discount every day until 10:00 am.
Partnering with Tia Health to Provide Access to Virtual Care for Employees, Customers and Patients
Rexall has partnered with Tia Health to launch a virtual care service for patients to help relieve the current burden on the acute healthcare system, specifically emergency rooms and hospitals. Patients will be able to talk to a doctor from the comfort of their homes by video chat or phone call and receive safe and effective medical care. Tia Health will be available at rexall.ca beginning on March 20th.
Virtual care is covered by the provincial health plan in Ontario (OHIP) and British Columbia (MSP), but not the other provinces. Patients with a valid Ontario or British Columbia health card will not be charged. Patients in other provinces will receive a receipt that may be reimbursed through a health spending account or other private insurance.
Rexall is making this service available free of charge for its employees.
Providing Home Delivery for Chronic and Maintenance Medications through Rexall Direct
Customers and patients with chronic conditions using maintenance medications will have access to home delivery for their pharmacy needs within 3-5 days. Eligible patients seeking home delivery can find more information at rexalldirect.ca.
As Canadians navigate the uncertainty of COVID-19, Rexall will continue to deliver convenient health and wellness options in communities across Canada, supplementing in-store experiences with online and home delivery options to help Canadians through this time.
