Uncertain about brand names and common or generic names?
All medications have both a common (generic) name and a brand name. The common or generic name is the standard name of the medicine (acetaminophen), while the brand name is the name under which a specific manufacturer markets a product (Tylenol®). A medicine's label will state the brand name, common or generic name, or both. You can search our Prescription Medication Library using either name.
